The Product

The Classic Ten-Speed is noted for it's lightness & speed.

It represents the culmination of bicycle-frame evolution.
However, designed for racing, it is also uncomfortable,
and tricky to shift. Production ended in the late 80s.
When such a bicycle is upgraded, a BIKE-CLASSIQUE is born !
 

The Hi-Tech Bike is promising, but of widely varying design

(ie experimental), and priced for the Great Free-Spenders.
 

The Mountain Bike is more comfortable & shiftable.

Marketed by association with mid-air, mud-slinging action,
it is the product of the "Just-Do-It" mindset that invaded
the bicycle market in the early 80s.  No effort was made
to understand -- much less apply -- the engineering refinements
of the then-current models.  A beefed-up kiddie-cycle was rolled out,
an action-image was associated with it, and the Mountain Bike
as born.
In any case, it is hyped for use on mountains, not bike paths.
Similarly hyped are: Track Bikes, Trail Bikes, Dirt/Mud Bikes,
Jail-Breakout Bikes, Kick-Boxing Bikes, Scuba-Diving Bikes,
Bunji-Jumping Bikes & Alligator-Wrestling Bikes.

The Process

• A suitable bicycle is stripped down to the Frame.
• Column, crank & wheel bearings are cleaned & inspected.
• Tires, grips, & other worn parts are replaced.
• Forks are inspected for symmetry, and trued as necessary.
• Anatomic Saddles and Straight Handlebars are substituted.
• Labeled Index Shifters replaceFriction Shifters.
• All open cables are replaced with Enclosed Control Cables.
• Cotterless cranks, and Solid Axles are substituted.
• Questionable accesories are not replaced.
• Optionally, an Enclosed Gear-Hub permits standing shifts.

User Benefits

Comfort

• The Anatomic Saddle relieves pressure-discomfort and riding fatigue.
• The Straight Handlebar places the hands in the correct position.

Rideability

Labeled Index-Shifters replace trial-&-error friction-shifters,

thus ending the hassle of searching for the right lever-position. 


• A trued fork stops pull steering-pull, and allows no-hands riding
  
(experience and conditions permitting).
 
• Optionally, the Enclosed Transmission enables shifting
  
without the requirement of foreward pedal movement,
which is a major advantage in tight-maneuvering situations.

Handleability

• Enclosed Cables stop snagging problems & stretch-damage
when carrying or loading the bicycle.

• Cotterless Cranks, and Solid Axles are substituted
  
to produce a more trouble-free and safer bicycle. 


• The optional Enclosed Gear-Hub avoids spoke-dishing,
  
and the resulting mechanical weakness in the rear wheel.

Technical Details

Frames

Steel, with junction braces, per Frame Specifications.

Frames are intentionally not painted, to preserve original markings.

Thus, within reason, pre-existing scratches are acceptable.

Dents in tubing and frame-distortions, however, are unacceptable.

Wheels

Aluminum Rims, 27X1.25", with 32 Spokes (stainless steel),

and Solid Axles.

Transmission

10 or 12 Speed (open sprocket-clusters standard);

7 Speed (internal-gear option).

Configuration

Classic "Ten-Speed", with "Flat" (15 dg) Handlebar,
and Index (Snap-Action) shifters.
